44 vehicles have been towed, and 160 tickets have been issued following a traffic enforcement operation in Southeast New Brunswick.

On October 16, 17, and 18, 2025, members of the New Brunswick RCMP's Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit (TTEU) and local detachment members, along with Highway Safety Enforcement and Provincial Motor Vehicle Inspectors from the Department of Justice and Public Safety, conducted a traffic enforcement operation targeting unsafe and modified vehicles in the Codiac, Petitcodiac, Richibucto and Sussex areas.

During the operation, a total of 160 traffic violation tickets were issued under the New Brunswick Motor Vehicle Act which included 22 tickets for using a handheld electronic device while driving, 32 tickets for speeding, and 12 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt. Police issued a 24-hour roadside licence suspension and arrested another individual, both for driving while impaired by drugs. A third individual was issued an immediate roadside suspension for driving while impaired by alcohol.

Two individuals were arrested for driving while suspended, and three vehicles were also found to not have valid insurance. A significant number of warnings were also issued during the traffic enforcement operation.

44 vehicles were towed during the operation, two of which for speeding more than 50 km/hr over the speed limit and were then impounded for seven days. A total of 70 vehicles were escorted to a vehicle inspection station, where 35 were also subsequently towed, after 28 of which were deemed unsafe.

"The focus of the RCMP Tactical Traffic Enforcement Unit is on behaviours that are the greatest risk to the public, whether it be driving behaviours or criminal activity," says unit Sergeant Ghislain David, "We do enforcement operations like this across the province year-round in an effort to increase road safety, and to limit the number of dangerous drivers and unsafe vehicles on our roadways."
