The Chaleur Region RCMP is asking for the public's help to identify an individual following an attempted theft and an assault in Belledune, N.B.
On September 29, 2025, at approximately 3:37 p.m., an individual entered a business on Main Street in Belledune and filled a cart with a significant amount of goods. While attempting to leave the store without paying, the individual was confronted by employees. After a short altercation, he left the business without any merchandise. No one was injured during this incident.
“Although no merchandise was stolen, we strongly advise employees not to engage with individuals attempting to commit theft,” said Sergeant Jean-François Dulac. “Situations like these can escalate quickly and pose a risk of violence.”
Police are now releasing surveillance footage photo in hopes that someone may recognize the individual.
The individual is described as being a man, approximately 6 feet tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black jacket, black hoodie, black pants, black shoes and a dark blue baseball cap.
Anyone who recognizes the individual, or who has information that could help further the investigation is asked to contact the Chaleur Region RCMP at 506-548-7771. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
