Man and woman charged following series of incidents; drugs and weapon seized

Two individuals have been charged following a pursuit with a stolen vehicle and the seizure of drugs, Canadian currency and a firearm in Hanwell, N.B. 

On January 17, 2026, at approximately 2 a.m., members of the Oromocto and Keswick RCMP detachments were conducting proactive patrols in the Hanwell industrial park following reports of break and enters in the area. While on patrol, members located a vehicle that had previously been reported as stolen and initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled from police at a high rate of speed through New Maryland. Police did not pursue the vehicle. 

A short time later, the vehicle circled back and police deployed a tire deflation device, however, the vehicle continued to flee into Fredericton where it intentionally collided with a police vehicle after conducting an illegal U-turn.  Police pursued the vehicle which collided with a second police vehicle after it was driving the wrong way through a roundabout. The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was arrested by police. The passenger was also arrested by police at the scene. 

Subsequent to the arrests, police searched the vehicle and located quantities of what is believed to be cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and fentanyl, as well as a large sum of Canadian currency, a prohibited firearm, and ammunition. 

Later the same day, 39-year-old Clayton Townes and 31-year-old Jenna Bunker appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court. Clayton Townes was charged with: 

  • Flight from police while being pursued
  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property over $5000 
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000 
  • Assault on a Peace Officer
  • Careless use, storage, handling and transport of firearm
  • Contravention of use, storage, handling and transport regulations
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Fentanyl

Jenna Bunker was charged with: 

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000 
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Fentanyl

Both individuals remain in custody and are scheduled to return to court at a later date.
