The Codiac Regional RCMP has announced a new structure for their investigative services following an external review.

In 2024, the Codiac Regional RCMP commissioned an independent external review of its organizational structure and policing effectiveness. The review examined everything from calls for service and population growth to investigative workloads and solvability rates. One of its most significant findings was that solvability for serious person crimes such as sexual assaults and domestic violence was lower than expected due to investigators carrying a broad mix of files, often shifting between vastly different types of investigations in a single day.

The review also found that solvability for property crime was low due to the high volume of calls for service related to property crime and challenges in conducting effective follow-ups.

As a result of these findings, Codiac leadership made a deliberate decision to reorganize investigative services into four specialized units, effective on January 5, 2026. These units are:

  • General Investigations Section
  • Vulnerable Persons Unit
  • Crime Reduction Unit – Priority Offender
  • Crime Reduction Unit – Property Crime

Furthermore, communication between police and the communities in Codiac was found to be lacking. As such, a new Facebook page will be launching soon, and a new Media Relations Officer has been selected, both specifically for the Codiac region.

The Codiac Regional RCMP detachment is also set to move into a new facility in the coming months – one that is designed to better support modern policing operations.

“We are committed to ensuring that the service we provide to our communities remains responsive, accountable, and equipped to meet today’s challenges,” says Supt. Benoit Jolette of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “We achieve this by working directly with the people of Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview, as well as our community partners and the CRPA so that we can continue to provide quality policing services.”
