Man charged after police seize prohibited firearm

A 29-year-old man from Fundy Albert, N.B., has been charged following the seizure of prohibited firearms in Riverview, N.B.
On February 2, 2026, members of the Codiac Crime Reduction Unit Priority Offender (CRU-PO) and the Integrated Enforcement Unit (IEU) observed an individual wanted on an unendorsed warrant of arrest at a business on Hillsborough Road in Riverview. When police approached, the man fled the scene. An officer quickly caught up to the man, and a physical altercation ensued. The man was arrested and suffered minor injuries.
Subsequent to the arrest, police searched the individual and seized a loaded 9 mm handgun, money, Percocet tablets, and discovered that the individual was wearing a body armour under his clothing.
Later that day, CRU-PO, IEU, with the assistance of Codiac Crime Reduction Unit - Property Crime and members of the Caledonia Region RCMP, executed a search warrant at a residence on Route 114 in Fundy Albert. Police seized a rifle and ammunition.
On February 3, 2026, 29-year-old Bradley Bonnell, from Fundy Albert, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with:
-possession of a loaded restricted firearm without authorization or registration
-possession of a restricted firearm for a purpose dangerous to the public peace
-carrying a firearm in a careless manner
-carrying a firearm without reasonable precautions for the safety of others
-possession of a firearm knowing the serial number was removed
-possession of a firearm while prohibited
-possession of a restricted firearm knowing no licence/registration
-possession of property over $5000 obtained by crime
-Failure to comply with a release order
-resisting /obstructing a peace officer
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 10, 2026.
The incident did not meet the criteria for an Alert Ready, however, the New Brunswick RCMP is always prepared to issue an Alert Ready should there be a need.
