A 41-year-old man from Moncton, N.B., has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the 2021 death of a 33-year-old woman

On October 27, 2021, at approximately 2:37 p.m., members of the Richibucto RCMP detachment responded to a report of a sudden death at a residence in Saint-Paul. When police arrived, they located a 33-year-old woman, later identified as Hyde Jochelman, deceased.

Between 2022 and 2024, new information and evidence pertaining to the file and the circumstances surrounding the death of Hyde Jochelman emerged, and police determined that her death was suspicious, believing it to be a homicide. As a result, the New Brunswick RCMP put together a special team of senior investigators dedicated to reviewing and advancing the case.

On February 10, 2026, members of the Southeast RCMP Community Crime Reduction Unit (CCRU), with assistance from the West District CCRU arrested a 41-year-old man at a residence in Moncton in connection with the investigation.

On February 11, Alex Beers appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with first degree murder, unlawful confinement, and failure to provide the necessaries of life. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on February 26 at 9:30 a.m.

“While nothing can undo the loss that Hyde Jochelman’s family has experienced, we hope that the charges laid today provide some sense of closure and reassurance that Hyde was never forgotten,” says S/Sgt. Dan Sharpe of the New Brunswick RCMP. “Complex investigations like this take time, but our focus has always been on ensuring justice for Hyde and her family, and I want to recognize the exceptional efforts of everyone involved in this file for making that happen.”

Several of the New Brunswick RCMP’s specialized policing units assisted with this investigation, including Forensic Identification Services, the Southeast and West District RCMP Community Crime Reduction Units, and Southeast District RCMP general duty members.

The New Brunswick RCMP extends its thanks to members of the Nova Scotia RCMP, who also assisted with this investigation.
