Two men charged following theft of copper

A 36-year-old man from Rusagonis, N.B., and a 36-year-old man from Geary, N.B., have been charged in connection with a theft of copper in Geary, N.B.

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 4:40 a.m., members of the West District RCMP were in the area of Broad Road in Geary after receiving multiple reports of copper wire theft.  

Two individuals were observed driving into the area and attempting to steal copper wire. As police approached, the individuals fled the scene in a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen. With the assistance of the RCMP's Police Dog Services, one individual was located and taken into custody. The second individual was identified but fled from police on an all-terrain vehicle. 

On April 10, 2026, 36-year-old Jeremy Delaney appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court and was charged with theft over $5000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000. He was released from custody on several conditions and is scheduled to return to court at a later date. 

On April 13, 2026, the second individual involved, a 36-year-old man was arrested without incident at a residence on Intervale Road in Oromocto.  

On April 14, 2026, 36-year-old Brian Dobson, appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court and was charged with theft over $5000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, flight from police, disguised with intent to commit an offence and assault on a police officer with a weapon causing bodily harm. He was released from custody on several conditions and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
