Individual charged in connection with copper wire theft

A 38-year-old man from Seeley’s Cove has been charged in connection with copper wire theft in Seeley’s Cove, N.B. 

On July 14, 2026, members of the St. George RCMP detachment received a report of a copper wire theft at a telecommunications tower on Seeley’s Cove Road, in Seeley’s Cove. That location had recently been targeted several times before. 

A member of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems unit attended the scene to capture aerial images and video. During the search, the member located a large quantity of copper wire near a recreational vehicle.

Members attended the location and arrested a 38-year-old man from Seeley’s Cove. The individual was also on conditions at the time of his arrest.  

Later the same day, police executed a search warrant at a residence and property in connection with the investigation. They located and seized approximately 1000 metres of copper wire, estimated to be valued at more than $16 000. 

On July 15, 2026, 38-year-old Cody Babineau appeared in Saint John Provincial Court and was charged with theft over $ 5000 and possession of stolen property. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on July 23, 2026.
