High-risk offender arrested in Moncton, charged with multiple firearms-related offences

The Codiac Regional RCMP has arrested a high-risk offender in Moncton, N.B., in connection with a weapons investigation.
On July 30, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), General Investigation Section (GIS), members of the New Brunswick RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), and RCMP Air Services successfully arrested 28-year-old man in downtown Moncton in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The man was wanted by police in connection with a weapons incident that occurred in Moncton on June 1, 2026, during which it was reported that the man had pointed a firearm at another individual. The man was considered armed and dangerous, and several specialized policing resources were deployed to safely locate and arrest him.
On July 31, 28-year-old Joshua Mabie appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with:
- Assault with a weapon
- Pointing a firearm
- Carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence
- Possession of a restricted firearm without being the holder of a licence
- Possession of a restricted weapon while prohibited
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to Moncton Provincial Court on August 21.
“The safe arrest of this individual was the result of careful planning and coordination between several specialized RCMP units,” says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. “Given the information available to investigators, every effort was made to protect the public while taking this individual into custody safely. We understand the significant police presence generated questions within the community, and we thank the public for their patience and cooperation during the operation.”
