Minor arrested and charged with terrorism offences

RCMP Federal Policing – Eastern Region has arrested a young Montréal man for terrorism-related offences. According to the investigation conducted by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, the individual intended to carry out at least one attack on behalf of the Islamic State. Among other things, he allegedly posted threatening comments on social media. He is facing the following charges:

  • Providing, making available, etc., property or services for terrorist purposes (CC 83.03(01))
  • Participation in activity of terrorist group (CC 83.18)
  • Facilitating terrorist activity (CC 83.19)

The individual is scheduled to appear tomorrow before the Youth Division of the Court of Québec.

Religiously motivated violent extremism

Countering radicalization to violence is a top priority for the Government of Canada. The RCMP remains committed to countering religiously motivated violent extremism. Collaboration and information sharing are key to detection and disruption efforts by law enforcement and our partners, such as the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.

Community engagement is central to prevention. The RCMP encourages citizens to remain vigilant and report any information on terrorism or related suspicious activity to the National Security Information Network (1-800-420-5805) or your local police department.
