Winnipeg resident charged for uttering threats against Prime Minister and local communities

On January 16, 2026, RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s National Security Enforcement Section in Manitoba launched an investigation into a user of the social media platform “X”, formerly known as Twitter, that had allegedly posted threats targeting Prime Minister Mark Carney and inciting hatred towards the Jewish and Muslim Communities. 

On February 13, 2026, officers arrested Jason Paul Rindall (55), a resident of Winnipeg. He has been charged with the following: 

  • Uttering a threat to Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney to cause death contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; 
  • Uttering a threat to Muslim persons to cause death contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and, 
  • Uttering a threat to Jewish persons to cause death contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. 

Rindall remains in custody and is scheduled to make his next appearance at the Winnipeg Provincial Court on March 13, 2026. 

RCMP Federal Policing is mandated to investigate criminal offences arising from terrorism, espionage, cyber attacks, nuclear security risks, foreign influenced activities, incidents involving the security of an Internationally Protected Person (IPPs), the unlawful release of national security information and terrorist financing. 

As part of its protective mandate, the RCMP is responsible for safeguarding designated Canadians and select foreign diplomatic personnel residing in Canada, as per Article 22 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, as well as visiting IPPs. 

The security environment in which public figures operate continues to evolve both within Canada and abroad, and we recognize this is a time for increased vigilance.

As the investigation is ongoing and before the courts, the RCMP will not be providing any further comments at this time.
