Woman sentenced in 2021 drug importation investigation

On April 10, 2026, a woman was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for importing methamphetamine into Canada. The court also imposed a 10-year weapons prohibition.

Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha (47) of Burnaby, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful importation of methamphetamine contrary to section 6(1) of the CDSA.

Background:

On October 18, 2021, officers with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) working at the Pacific Highway point of entry, conducted primary screening of a vehicle crossing from the United States into Canada. The driver fled the port of entry at a high rate of speed and was stopped a short time later by a police officer with the RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region, Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET). The driver, Sukhvinder Kaur Sangha, and the vehicle were returned to the point of entry where they underwent further examination. Border services officers, with assistance from a CBSA detector dog, located several large commercially sealed bags containing a white crystalline substance in the trunk. A total of 100 kilograms of methamphetamine was seized.

“This case sends a clear message that those who attempt to traffic harmful drugs into our country will be held accountable”, says Cpl. James Bennett, Media Relations Officer with RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region. “Thanks to the swift actions and strong collaboration between border officers and police, a significant quantity off illicit drugs was intercepted and kept out of our communities”.
