RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region arrested Mohamed Ali Ben Chaoua, 40, from Lévis, this morning as part of a national security investigation. Québec City Detachment officers conducting the case had reasonable grounds to fear that Mr. Ben Chaoua may commit terrorism offences.

The investigation began in March 2025 following an online report to the RCMP’s National Security Information Network. According to information gathered so far, Mr. Ben Chaoua allegedly made numerous posts on TikTok in support of the Islamic State.

The purpose of the police operation was to compel Mr. Ben Chaoua to cease his suspicious activities and to lay a terrorism peace bond pursuant to section 810.011 of the Criminal Code. This will enable the implementation of monitoring measures and de-escalation tools to disrupt or mitigate potential terrorist offences.

The investigation is ongoing and all evidence will be analyzed. Charges may be laid at a later date.

Mr. Ben Chaoua is scheduled to appear tomorrow at the Québec City courthouse.
