RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region announces the laying of charges against Aaron Baringue, 36, from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu. This RCMP officer is charged with breach of trust and obstruction under the Criminal Code for allegedly taking part in organizing the illegal entry of a family member into Canada in September 2024.

Mr. Baringue had been working as a patrol officer with the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team since 2019. He has been suspended from duty since the incident occurred.

The case was led by the RCMP’s Special Investigations Unit. The Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Customs and Border Protection collaborated in the investigation.

Mr. Baringue is scheduled to appear at the St-Jean-sur-Richelieu courthouse on July 20.
