RCMP to carry out additional RPAS operational trials in the Northwest Territories

The RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region (NWR) and RCMP Air Services are advising residents and aviation traffic of a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operational trial exercise in the Tuktoyaktuk area between August 22-27, 2026. The exercise will occur in temporary Restricted Airspace, originating from a location approximately 150 km southwest of Tuktoyaktuk and extending approximately 250 to 300 km east of Tuktoyaktuk.

The public can be assured that these operations are routine in nature and do not stem from any immediate risk or threat to the community. This exercise is part of the RCMP’s ongoing commitment to strengthen border security, Arctic sovereignty, and effectiveness, using the temporary Restricted Airspace to operate a variety of RPAS systems while prioritizing public safety and strategic deconfliction.

Flying in temporary Restricted Airspace

The RCMP are advising that the airspace in the trial will be temporarily restricted between August 22-27, 2026. All aviation traffic must refer to the NOTAM.
