This morning, RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region arrested a young man from Montréal as part of an investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team. Investigators had reasonable grounds to fear that the suspect might commit crimes related to violent extremism.

The investigation began a few weeks ago in response to intelligence shared by the FBI. According to the alleged facts, the individual was planning an attack at a school in Montréal. He is alleged to have used artificial intelligence in the potential planning of an attack and to have posted threatening messages on Telegram targeting various groups.

This police operation was intended to disrupt the individual’s suspected activities and to seek a peace bond under section 810.011 of the Criminal Code. This measure allows for monitoring and de-escalation interventions designed to reduce risks to public safety and promote compliance with the conditions imposed.

The investigation is ongoing and all evidence will be analyzed. Charges may be laid at a later date.

The individual is scheduled to appear today before the Youth Division of the Montréal courthouse.
