In February 2026, the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) in Alberta began an investigation into the online correspondence between an online user and users affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS.
As a result of the investigation, INSET arrested a 17-year-old Alberta youth for a terrorism-related offence on Oct. 26, 2026. The RCMP has commenced proceedings against the youth by way of a terrorism peace bond, pursuant to section 810.011 of the Criminal Code - Fear of terrorism offence.
The youth was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear at the Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Nov. 3, 2026.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents any further release of information regarding these individuals. As the criminal investigation is ongoing and before the courts, the RCMP will not be making any further comments at this time.
