Twillingate RCMP investigating report of possible vehicle under water

Twillingate RCMP has engaged the RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador Underwater Recovery Team (URT) to assist with a search, to determine if a vehicle entered the water near the New World Island causeway.
At this time, investigators have not confirmed that a vehicle entered the water.
At approximately 7:15 a.m. on September 11, 2025, Twillingate RCMP received a report from a construction worker who spotted possible vehicle debris on the roadway near the causeway and was concerned about the possibility of a vehicle in the water.
The RCMP NL Underwater Recovery Team (URT) has been deployed and will be in the water assisting with the investigation.
The Twillingate Fire Department, Summerford Fire Rescue, NL Emergency Health Services and a vessel with the Canadian Coast Guard are also on scene.
The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the community as the investigation continues.
