Clarenville RCMP is investigating a three-vehicle crash that closed the Trans-Canada Highway on Friday afternoon and resulted in serious and life-altering injuries to two people. Police are urging all witnesses to come forward, including those who have pictures or videos of any of the vehicles involved prior, during or following the crash.

At approximately 2:42 p.m. on December 12, 2025, Clarenville RCMP responded to a report of a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway, near Thornburn Lake. A commercial semi-tractor trailer unit loaded with lumber left the roadway, after it had collided with two passenger vehicles.

Glovertown RCMP had received reports of a black commercial transport truck hauling a load of logs being driven in an erratic and dangerous manner eastbound from Gambo. Clarenville RCMP had been patrolling for the commercial vehicle when the crash occurred.

One of the passenger vehicles came to rest partially submerged in a pond. Its occupants — a man and a woman — were transported to local hospital with serious injuries. One of those occupants has since been transported to a larger medical facility for advanced medical treatment.

The investigation into the crash and the events leading up to the collision is continuing.

Clarenville RCMP is asking any witnesses, or anyone with cell phone video, images or dash camera footage of the incident between the hours of 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025 —including any events leading up to the crash — to contact the Clarenville RCMP detachment at 709-466-3211.
