Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrested a 29-year-old man on Sunday morning after responding to a vehicle rollover in Botwood. The driver, who had fled the scene, was located by police and charged with impaired operation.
Just after 3:00 a.m. on March 15, 2026, police responded a report of a vehicle rollover on Fernwood Drive. The Botwood Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the scene. Officers were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle.
Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP officers attended the home of the vehicle’s registered owner of the vehicle and took a 29-year-old Point of Bay man into custody for impaired operation. He was transported to the detachment where breath testing confirmed his impairment.
The man was released from police custody and will appear in court in June 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while over 80mg% of alcohol.
This week is National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, and RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador officers will be patrolling our roads and trails to ensure drivers and off-road vehicle operators are safe and sober. Impaired drivers place themselves and all others who share the roadway at increased risk of serious injury or death. If you suspect a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired, please call 911.
