Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP arrested two men after responding to a report of a robbery early Saturday morning. Samuel Blake, 35, and Craig Best, 41, are facing charges including break and enter, assault and pointing a firearm.

On March 14, around 5:40 a.m., police in Happy Valley-Goose Bay attended a home on Courte Manche Street after receiving a report of a robbery and assault. Two men, known to the victim, broke into the home and assaulted one of the residents while pointing a firearm and making threats. Officers were provided with names of the suspects, as well as descriptions of both men and the vehicle they were driving.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP engaged the RCMP Labrador District General Investigation Section and Police Dog Services, and officers began patrols for the suspects and vehicle.

Police located the described vehicle outside a home on Mesher Street later that evening, and arrested 41-year-old Craig Best without incident. A short time later, an officer located 35-year-old Samuel Craig Blake at a residence on Brett Street, and he was taken into police custody.

Officers also located and seized an imitation handgun from the suspect vehicle.

Best and Blake have both been charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Robbery
  • Pointing a firearm

Best is facing an additional charge of uttering threats.

Both men appeared in court over the weekend and were remanded into custody. Best and Blake are expected to make their next court appearance tomorrow (Tuesday).

The investigation is ongoing.
