Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrested and charged a 49-year-old woman after responding to a report of an assault on Saturday evening. The woman faces additional charges of mischief, operation while prohibited and failure to comply with a demand for a breath sample.
On March 14, just before 6:00 p.m., police were called to a residence in response to an assault. The victim reported that the suspect, who was known to them, had also caused damage to their home before driving away. The victim also shared their concern that the suspect might be driving while impaired. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP began patrols for the suspect’s vehicle and located it a short time later outside a residence in Cottrell’s Cove. They located the driver — a 49-year-old woman — inside, and arrested her for assault, mischief and operating a vehicle while prohibited.
During the arrest, officers observed signs of intoxication and presented the woman with a demand for a breath sample, which she refused. As a result, she was also charged with refusal or failure to comply with a demand.
The woman was released with conditions, and is expected to appear in provincial court in June 2026.
Refusing to comply with a demand issued by police as part of an impaired operation investigation is a criminal offence. If convicted, this offence carries the same penalties as a charge of impaired operation.
Impaired drivers place themselves and all others who share the roadway at increased risk of serious injury or death. If you suspect a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired, please call 911 immediately.
