A 40-year-old man was ticketed by Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP on Sunday, after operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on the roadway without a driver’s licence or proper insurance.
Just after 4:00 p.m. on March 15, RCMP on patrol in Upper Ferry observed an ATV speeding on Main Road. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was found to be operating the ATV without a valid driver’s licence or insurance on the vehicle.
The ATV was seized by police and impounded. The driver was ticketed under the Off-Road Vehicles Act. for operating an off-road vehicle on the highway without a licence.
Off-road vehicle operators are reminded that they are responsible for understanding and abiding by all applicable laws outlined in the Off-Road Vehicle Act and Highway Traffic Act. It is illegal to operate an ATV on a roadway, except to cross from one side to the other, and the operator must have registration, insurance, a valid driver’s licence and not less than one hundred and fifty metres of visibility to do so.
