Officers with Deer Lake RCMP and the Traffic Services West unit checked dozens of vehicles on Wednesday afternoon as part of a National Impaired Driving Prevention Week initiative.
On March 18, police set up a checkstop on Upper Nicholsville Road in Deer Lake, looking for signs of impairment and ensuring all drivers had proper documentation. At least 80 vehicles were stopped during this National Impaired Driving Prevention Week initiative.
Additional patrols and traffic stops were conducted on Route 430 throughout the day.
Officers were pleased to observe all drivers operating sober, with valid licences, registration and insurance.
March 15 – 21, 2026 is National Impaired Driving Prevention Week across Canada, and RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador officers are patrolling our roads and trails to ensure drivers and off-road vehicle operators are safe and sober.
Operating any vehicle — including ATVs and snowmobiles – while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a reckless and dangerous choice that can cause lifelong injury or death. If you suspect a driver is operating while impaired, please call 911 immediately.
