Clarenville RCMP arrested a 50-year-old man Monday evening, after he fled from police during an attempted traffic stop. The driver faces charges of flight from police, and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.

Shortly before 8:00 p.m. on March 23, officers on patrol in Bunyan’s Cove spotted a vehicle being driven by a known suspended driver. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued down the road at a high rate of speed.

Officers followed the vehicle to a nearby residence, and the driver was taken into custody without incident. He was released with conditions, and is expected to appear in court in June 2026 to face charges of flight from police and failure to comply with a probation order.

RCMP officers patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador looking for impaired drivers, checking for seatbelts and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation. Motorists are reminded to drive safe, drive sober and ensure that your licence, registration and insurance are always up to date.
