RCMP Labrador District General Investigation Section arrested 21-year-old Dillion Bragg for possession for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with a release order, after a curfew check early Sunday morning confirmed he was in violation of his court-ordered conditions.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on March 29, police attempted to conduct a curfew check on Dillion Bragg at a home in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Bragg, 21, was required to remain at that address during prescribed hours as a condition of release on a matter currently before the courts.
When RCMP officers arrived, they confirmed that Bragg was not inside the home, and was therefore arrestable for failure to comply with his release order.
Investigators located him outside a restaurant on Tuesday morning, and he was placed under arrest for the breach of conditions.
A search after the arrest resulted in the location and seizure of a small, bladed weapon, a quantity of suspected cocaine and other items consistent with drug trafficking activities.
Bragg was transported to the detachment in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine) and three counts of failure to comply with a release order.
Police also executed a search warrant authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a home on Brett Street after Bragg was taken into custody. During the residential search, additional evidence was located and seized in relation to the trafficking investigation. Two women inside the home were also arrested, but released without charges
He appeared in provincial court on Tuesday (March 31) and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for today.
Cocaine is a leading cause of overdose deaths in Newfoundland and Labrador, and cannot be treated with naloxone. If you suspect someone is overdosing on cocaine, please call 911.
