The vehicle was seized and impounded by police.

A driver had his vehicle impounded and received multiple summary offence tickets from New-Wes-Valley RCMP after a traffic stop on Wednesday.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on April 1, 2026, New-Wes-Valley RCMP officers received a report of an uninsured vehicle being driven by a driver without a licence. Police patrolled the area and located the driver on Main Road in Valleyfield.

Police confirmed that the driver was unlicensed and did not have valid insurance. There were also two separate licence plates attached to the rear of the vehicle — neither of which were registered to that vehicle.

The 32-year-old Gander man was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for:

  • Operating a vehicle without a driver’s licence,
  • Using identification plates or markers other than the one issued for the vehicle – two counts,
  • Operating a vehicle without a policy of insurance.

The vehicle was seized and impounded.

By law, your vehicle must properly display the licence or marker officially issued for it by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Motor Registration Division (MRD).

RCMP officers proactively patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador looking for impaired drivers, checking for seatbelts and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation. Motorists are reminded to drive safe, drive sober and ensure that your licence, registration and insurance are always up to date.
