Holyrood suspended the licence of a 26-year-old driver on Thursday after he was caught travelling more than 70 km/hr over the posted speed limit.
Around 1:30 p.m. on April 30, an officer with Holyrood RCMP conducting enforcement on the Trans-Canada Highway observed a vehicle travelling at speeds up to 174 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone.
A traffic stop was conducted near Soldier’s Pond and the driver — a 26-year-old man — was ticketed for excessive speeding. His driver’s licence was suspended, and his vehicle was seized and impounded.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador urges motorists to slow down and plan ahead. The extra minute or two that you might save by speeding is not worth it. There are penalties – like fines, having your license suspended or seeing your vehicle seized and impounded. But there are far worse consequences: you could seriously hurt yourself, your passengers, other drivers, pedestrians or animals. In some cases, your speed could cause life-altering injury or cost someone their life.
