RCMP officers in Burgeo deemed a vehicle unsafe for the roads on Thursday following a traffic stop. The owner of the vehicle was ticketed after an investigation revealed that the vehicle was also being operated by a suspended driver without valid insurance.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on May 14, 2026, an officer on patrol along Reach Road in Burgeo observed a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that appeared to be unfit for the roadway and conducted a traffic stop.
The operator — a 70-year-old man — was unable to provide his driver’s licence, nor valid insurance and registration documents for the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that he was suspended from driving, and the vehicle did not have proper insurance.
The vehicle was immediately removed from the roadway and police issued tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for operating a vehicle with a suspended licence, operating without an insurance policy and driving an unregistered vehicle.
RCMP officers patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador looking for impaired drivers, checking for seatbelts and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation. Motorists are reminded to drive safe, drive sober and ensure that your licence, registration and insurance are always up to date.
