Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP is investigating an incident where a youth found a stun gun in the vicinity of a playground in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. 

On May 19, 2026, a concerned citizen attended the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP Detachment to turn in a found weapon to police. A stun gun was discovered by a youth along Campbell Street across from the Ford Street playground. Police were told that the youth sustained minor injuries after shocking themselves with the device.

The device was seized and has since been disposed of by police. The item is described as a rechargeable stun gun shaped like a pair of brass knuckles and is comprised of plastic and metal. Photos of the device are included here.

Police have patrolled the area, and no further weapons were located. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the areas of Campbell Street and Ford Street, or anyone with information related to the origin of this device, to please contact Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP at 709-896-3383.

RCMP NL reminds the public to report directly to police any items of concern or unknown origin found in the community. Do not touch, move or attempt to dispose of these items yourself, as they could be dangerous. If you see something suspicious, contact police immediately.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to talk with children about the importance of not handling unknown objects and letting a trusted adult know right away if they find something they’re unsure about.
