Bonavista RCMP seized a vehicle from a driver caught travelling more than 60 km/hr over the posted speed limit near Little Catalina on Saturday night.
On June 6 around 10:45 p.m., a Bonavista RCMP officer patrolling Route 230 observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near Little Catalina. Radar confirmed a speed of 144 km/hr in am 80 km/hr zone.
A traffic stop was initiated and the driver, a 34-year-old woman, was ticketed and her licence was suspended. Police also seized and impounded the vehicle she was driving.
Speed can kill. Excessive speeding is a common contributor to motor vehicle collisions and roadway fatalities. The moment or two you might gain is not worth it, because the consequences can be far more serious than fines, demerit points and suspensions. You could cause serious, life-altering harm or death for yourself, your passengers and everyone else on the road. Plan ahead and slow down.
