Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP is investigating a possible case of animal cruelty after a dog was located deceased in the water near Route 470

On Thursday, June 11, police received a report of the deceased small breed dog in a lake near Route 470, approximately two kilometres outside Port aux Basques. Officers attended the scene and determined that the animal had a collar, but no tag identifying the dog or its owner. 

The provincial Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer has been engaged. 

As part of the investigation, Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP is looking to identify and speak with the animal’s owner, and anyone with information about this incident.

The investigation is continuing.
