A 39-year-old man was taken into custody by Sheshatshiu RCMP Thursday afternoon when a traffic stop revealed that he was a prohibited driver and the subject of an active arrest warrant.
On June 11 around 12:50 p.m., an officer patrolling Route 520 observed a vehicle traveling 114 km/h where the posted limit is 80km/h. Police stopped the vehicle and learned that the driver — a 39-year-old Sheshatshiu man — was the subject of an active warrant of arrest. In addition, the man was prohibited from driving.
He was arrested and held in custody in relation to the previous warrant of arrest. In addition, he was issued a notice to appear in provincial court at a future date on one new count of driving while prohibited.
The vehicle he was driving was seized by police and impounded.
RCMP officers proactively patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador looking for impaired drivers, checking for seatbelts and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation. Motorists are reminded to drive safe, drive sober and ensure that your licence, registration and insurance are always up to date.
