Holyrood RCMP arrested a man on Saturday after a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of improperly stored cannabis, drug paraphernalia and a firearm. A 26-year-old man is facing charges of operation while impaired and possession and unsafe storage of firearms.
On June 13, around 1:05 p.m., police in Holyrood observed a pick-up truck with the passenger side mirror missing. The registration on the vehicle was also expired. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver showed signs of impairment by drugs. He was taken into custody without incident.
A search of the vehicle produced a quantity of dried cannabis, drug paraphernalia and an unsecured rifle and ammunition.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and transported to the Holyrood Detachment for a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation and provided with a demand for a sample to confirm impairment.
He was released from custody with conditions and is expected to appear in court in September 2026, on Criminal Code charges of:
- Operation while impaired
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
The investigation is ongoing.
Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a choice that presents an unnecessary and unacceptable risk of serious injury or death. If you suspect someone is operating a vehicle of any kind while under the influence, please call 911 immediately to make a report.
