Harbour Breton RCMP arrested a 41-year-old woman Sunday evening after she fled from police during an attempted traffic stop. The driver is now facing a criminal charge of flight from police, and five charges under the provincial Highway Traffic Act.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on June 21, officers patrolling Route 360 near Conne River spotted a vehicle being driven by a known suspended driver. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle abandoned in a forested area along a high-voltage transmission line. The driver was found at a nearby property and taken into custody without incident.
She was later released and is expected to appear in court in September 2026 to face a Criminal Code charge of flight from police.
The driver was also issued tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for:
- Operating a vehicle with a suspended or cancelled licence,
- Operating a vehicle without a policy of insurance,
- Failure to notify registrar of transfer of ownership,
- Operating an unregistered or un-licenced vehicle,
- Failure to stop at a stop sign.
RCMP officers patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador looking for impaired drivers, checking for seatbelts and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation. Motorists are reminded to drive safe, drive sober and ensure that your licence, registration and insurance are always up to date.
