Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP charges man with impaired operation, failure to provide sample

Police in Happy Valley-Goose Bay arrested a 25-year-old man early Sunday morning, after responding to a report of a suspected impaired driver. The driver was located and charged with impaired operation failure to comply with demand.

On June 28, around 1:10 a.m., Happy Valley-Goose Bay received a call about an unknown man who had shown signs of impairment and was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car parked outside a business on Hamilton River Road. Police immediately began patrols, and quickly located the described vehicle. 

When officers approached the driver — a 25-year-old man — they observed signs of intoxication and attempted to administer a roadside breath test. The man failed to provide an adequate sample for testing and was arrested for impaired operation. 

He was transported to the detachment, where he again failed to provide the samples required to confirm impairment. 

The man was charged with impaired operation and failure or refusal to comply with a demand. He was held in custody overnight before he was released, and is required to appear in provincial court in August 2026. In addition, his driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded. 

Refusing to comply with a demand issued by police as part of an impaired operation investigation is a criminal offence. If convicted, this offence carries the same penalties as a charge of impaired operation.

Impaired drivers place themselves and all others who share the roadway at an unacceptable risk of serious injury or death. If you suspect a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired, please call 911 immediately.
