Bell Island RCMP arrested a woman Monday evening, after receiving a call from a concerned resident about a possible impaired driver on the ferry crossing.
At approximately 4:45 p.m. on July 6, police on Bell Island received a report that a woman on the ferry was under the influence of alcohol. Officers located her vehicle exiting the ferry and immediately conducted a traffic stop.
The driver showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside screening. She was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Bell Island RCMP Detachment, where she provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit.
The woman’s licence was suspended and her vehicle seized and impounded. She was released from custody and will appear in court at a future date.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador offers sincere thanks to the caller who reported their concerns. By taking action, you may have saved a life.
