Burin Peninsula RCMP arrests repeat offender for failing to comply with court-ordered conditions

Police arrested a 47-year-old Marystown man, and charged him with ten counts of failing to comply with his court-ordered conditions, after he was found in violation Saturday evening.

On July 4, shortly before 6:00 p.m., Burin Peninsula RCMP received a report of suspicious activity outside of a retail store on Mall Street in Marystown. Police attended the location and identified Joseph Strickland, 47, who was wanted on prior charges of failure to comply with terms of both release and probation orders.

Strickland was found to be in possession of illegal tobacco products, drug paraphernalia and unidentified pills. He was arrested without incident and transported to the local detachment, where he was held in police custody until his court appearance on July 6. 

He was charged with of four counts of failure to comply with a probation order, six counts of failure to comply with a release order and possession of unstamped tobacco.

As the investigation continues, including laboratory testing of the pills seized by police, further charges are possible.
