Mary’s Harbour RCMP suspended the licence of a driver caught travelling 55 km/hr over the posted speed limit along Route 510 in Labrador on Wednesday.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., on July 8, a Mary’s Harbour RCMP officer - on patrol in the community of Lodge Bay - stopped a vehicle observed travelling at 105 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.
The driver - a 24-year-old man - was ticketed under the Newfoundland and Labrador Highway Traffic Act for excessive speeding. His licence was suspended.
RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador urges motorists to slow down and drive with added caution as conditions can change quickly, and moose and other wildlife are on the move.
There are penalties for speeding – like fines, having your license suspended or having your vehicle seized and impounded. And there are far worse consequences: you could seriously hurt yourself, your passengers, other drivers or pedestrians. In some cases, your speed could cause life-altering injury or cost someone their life. Slow down. Drive safe.
