Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrested a 46-year-old man on Saturday after responding to a report of a man pointing a firearm and uttering threats in a nearby cabin area. Corey Chislett faces three Criminal Code charges related to the incident.

On July 11, shortly after 11:00 a.m., police in Grand Falls-Windsor received a call from a contractor working in a wooded area near Tom Joe Brook. The victim reported that, earlier that morning, their team was making inquiries about tools missing from their job site when one property owner threatened the group with a firearm, and physically pushed one victim with the weapon.

On receiving the report, the RCMP Emergency Response Team was immediately deployed to the area, while officers from the Grand Falls-Windsor detachment attended the property. RCMP Police Dog Services, officers with the General Investigation Section and the Forensic Identification Section were also engaged in the response.

The suspect, 46-year-old Corey Chislett, was arrested without incident. He made his first appearance in court on Sunday, and has been charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm,
  • Assault with weapon or imitation,
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.

The investigation is continuing with additional charges possible, but there are no concerns for public safety related to this incident.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador reminds the public that the unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon without proper authorization and making threats involving a firearm are serious offences that pose a significant risk to public and police safety.

Any report involving a firearm is treated as serious, and individuals found in violation of firearms legislation may face charges under the Criminal Code and/or Firearms Act. We urge anyone with information about illegal firearms activity to report it to police immediately.
