RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks its partners after a woman in medical distress was rescued from a remote trail near Long Harbour Sunday afternoon.

Burin Peninsula RCMP responded to a call from the Medical Communications Centre around 1:15 p.m. on July 12, advising of a hiker who fell into a brook on a trail near Long Harbour and may have a broken leg.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Burin Peninsula Ground Search and Rescue volunteers were engaged in the rescue efforts.

Good samaritans offered their assistance to the injured hiker and her companion, and worked with Burin Peninsula RCMP officers to transport the injured woman to a nearby roadway where Emergency Medical Services personnel were waiting to provide assessment and treatment.

The injured hiker was taken to hospital for further treatment of her injuries.
