Officers with the RCMP West District General Investigation Section (GIS) arrested 44-year-old Bert Gosney and 38-year-old Krystal White after a traffic stop in Deer Lake determined they were both in violation of police-imposed conditions.

Around 5:30 p.m. on July 11, an officer with the West District GIS was roadside conducting a traffic stop, when a second, unrelated vehicle was observed turning around and driving away from the area.

Officers located and stopped the vehicle and quickly discovered that the driver and his passenger were prohibited from being in contact with each other as a condition of a previous arrest and release.

With the assistance of Deer Lake RCMP officers Bert Gosney, 44, and Krystal White, 38, were arrested and transported to the nearby detachment. Both appeared in court over the weekend on one charge each of failure to comply with an undertaking.

RCMP officers across the province regularly conduct checks to ensure compliance with court-imposed conditions. Many of these individuals are repeat offenders, known to police and in their communities, and ensuring they comply with their conditions helps reduce repeat crime and enhances public safety.

Continued monitoring and follow up checks also allows police to intervene quickly when conditions are breached, while also recognizing and supporting those who are complying.
