Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP investigating fatal collision on the TCH

Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services are investigating a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) that resulted in the death of one individual Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 2:00 p.m. on July 14, Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision between a passenger car and a recreational vehicle (RV) on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Route 80 interchange in Whitbourne.

Holyrood RCMP, RCMP Traffic Services East, Whitbourne Fire and Rescue and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the scene.

The driver of the passenger car, a 71-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her passenger was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and passenger of the RV were assessed medically at the scene by NL Health Services.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

To respect the privacy of the deceased and their loved ones, no additional details are being shared publicly at this time.
