RCMP Traffic Services West suspend driver's licence for excessive speed

A motorist had his vehicle seized and licence suspended roadside yesterday morning after he was stopped by RCMP Traffic Services West for traveling more than 50 km/hr over the posted limit on Route 430.

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on July 20, an officer with RCMP Traffic Services West observed a vehicle travelling at speeds up to 132 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone on Route 430, south of Rocky Harbour. 

A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, a 30-year-old Trout River man, was ticketed for excessive speeding. His licence was suspended, and his vehicle was impounded by police.

Slow down and stay alert this summer, as roads across the province become busier with residents and visitors on the move. Speed is one of the most common contributing factors to serious and fatal road collisions, and the extra minute or two that you might save by speeding is simply not worth it. There are penalties like fines, or the loss of your licence or vehicle. But there are far worse consequences, like life-altering injuries or even death.
