Clarenville RCMP tickets five drivers for speeding in under an hour during afternoon traffic blitz

RCMP officers in the Clarenville area issued five tickets for speeding in less than one hour Wednesday afternoon during a traffic enforcement blitz on the Trans-Canada Highway. 

On July 22, between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m., Clarenville RCMP stopped five drivers travelling faster than the posted speed limit. Each was issued a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act, and reminded of the dangers of excessive speed. 

Two additional drivers were also stopped by police for speeding earlier in the afternoon and issued tickets.

In addition to issuing speeding tickets, officers ensured that the vehicles were safe, seatbelts were in use and that all drivers had the proper documentation, including valid driver’s licences, insurance and vehicle registration. 

These stops were part of an afternoon highway traffic enforcement initiative on the Trans-Canada Highway through Clarenville and the surrounding areas. 

RCMP officers are conductive proactive patrols on roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador this summer, looking for dangerous driving, speeding, impairment and other common factors in serious motor vehicle collisions. They will also be checking for seatbelt usage and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation.
