Placentia-Whitbourne District RCMP is investigating a moose-vehicle collision that occurred overnight and resulted in the death of a 53-year-old driver.
Just before 2:45 a.m. on July 27, Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP responded to a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway involving a passenger vehicle and a moose. Members of the local fire department and Emergency Medical Services personnel also attended the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended to assist with the investigation, and the highway was closed for several hours west of the Chapel Arm exit. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has also been engaged.
The investigation is continuing.
