Harbour Grace RCMP arrested a 60-year-old man for impaired operation after he was stopped on his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) Thursday night.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on August 20, officers patrolling Kelly’s Road in Harbour Grace observed an ATV travelling the roadway without its lights on. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver — a 60-year-old Blaketown man — showed signs of impairment. 

The man was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the detachment, where he provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit. 

He was later released from custody, and will appear in provincial court in October 2026. In addition, his driver’s licence was suspended, and his ATV was seized and impounded by police.

Impaired operation laws apply to all types of vehicles, including ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, boats and personal watercraft. Operating any vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a choice that puts everyone at unnecessary and unacceptable risk.

If you suspect someone is operating any type of vehicle while impaired, call 911 immediately and be prepared to provide a description of the vehicle, including a licence plate if possible, and its current location.
