Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP arrested a 25-year-old man overnight after officers responded to a report of a disturbance and assault, and were subsequently assaulted by the suspect as he resisted arrest.
Just before midnight on August 31, Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance on Courte Manche. Upon arrival, officers were informed that an assault had occurred. The suspect had left the scene, however, witnesses provided a name and description of the man, and police began immediate patrols of the area to locate him.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., officers located the 25-year-old suspect and attempted to arrest him for assault and breaching the conditions of his release order. He resisted arrest and became combative with police, causing minor injuries to one officer.
The man was taken to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP detachment, and is expected to appear in provincial court today (Tuesday). He has been charged with:
- Resisting/Obstructing a peace officer
- Assault on a police officer
- Assault
- Failure to comply with a release order – two counts
- Mischief under $5,000
The investigation continues.
