Forteau RCMP suspended the license of a 42-year-old man Thursday evening, after he was observed driving more than 50 km/hr over the posted speed limit.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on September 3, an officer patrolling Route 510 just north of Red Bay captured a truck on radar travelling 131 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. The driver, a 42-year-old Mary’s Harbour man, was issued a ticket for speeding and his license was suspended roadside.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, drivers who are caught travelling 51 km/hr or more above the posted speed limit can face significant penalties, including an immediate licence suspension, vehicle impound and demerit points. Speed is also one of the most common contributors to serious roadway incidents: it increases the risk of collisions and can lead to severe or life-threatening consequences for everyone on our roads.
