Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrests pair after seizing weapons during traffic stop

A man and woman, ages 31 and 39, were arrested by Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP on Monday after a traffic stop near Centennial Field resulted in the seizure of suspected drugs, firearms and other weapons.

Just before 1:00 a.m. on September 14, Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP officers conducting proactive patrols stopped a speeding vehicle on Cromer Avenue, near Shanawsithit Centennial Park. Police confirmed that the 31-year-old man did not possess a valid driver’s licence and that he was operating the vehicle without valid insurance. 

The driver was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act, and his vehicle was seized and impounded.

Officers located a prohibited firearm while conducting an inventory of the vehicle’s contents.

A search warrant authorized under the Criminal Code was obtained and executed on the impounded vehicle. Officers seized a firearm, two imitation firearms, ammunition, a machete, several knives, a quantity of suspected fentanyl, illicit cannabis and cash.

Robert James Reid, 31, and Suzy Anthony, 39, both of Grand Falls-Windsor were later arrested and held in custody to appear in court today (Tuesday). They face a number of charges under the Criminal Code including:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
• Possession of a weapon obtained by crime,
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
• Possession of a firearm when knowing its possession is unauthorized,
• Possession of firearm / weapon / device / ammunition in a motor vehicle,
• Possession of restricted firearm / prohibited weapon with ammo without licence / registration,
• Unsafe storage of firearms.

The investigation is continuing and further charges are possible.
